Psoriasis is a persistent and chronic skin disease which has a tendency to be genetically inherited. The word comes from ancient Greece, and means "to itch". Red eruptions appear on the surface of the skin and begin to itch. These areas form plaques over the reddened lesions. The plaques resemble multi-layered scales of skin. Psoriasis varies in intensity from a few random spots to a massive outbreak covering the entire body and requiring hospitalization.
In some cases, psoriasis is so mild that people don't know they have it. At the opposite extreme, severe psoriasis may cover large areas of the body. Psoriasis cannot be passed from one person to another, though it is more likely to occur in people whose family members have it.
At the Kangal Psoriasis Treatment Centre, a long-established, welcoming family-run facility located at the mountain resort of Sivas in Central Anatolia, psoriasis is cured through a unique, all natural technique, known as “fishy treatment”. The Kangal Fish Spring has a miracle toothless fish which lives in 37°C warm waters and which cannot be found in any other part of the world. It is through the combined effects of this healing fish and the thermal, selenium-rich waters that psoriasis is treated.
Following an initial medical check-up, patients undergo a 10- to maximum 21-day treatment with a total of 4+4 hours in the thermal pools per day. The centre disposes of 4 outdoor pools, two of which with the healing fish and two without, and 2 indoor pools with healing fish. Men and women are treated separately. Patients can be accompanied by relatives or friends who do not need treatment and who can enjoy the benefits of the thermal waters and the unique atmosphere of the place.
